Volunteers

The Club is run entirely on a voluntary basis by parents/guardians/swimmers/coaches, without whose participation the Club would not exist. As children move on in life and leave the Club, the pool of such volunteers diminishes, so  there is always plenty of opportunities for you to be involved. The following table gives details of Club activities and an indication of experience and time commitment required:

Activity Pre-conditions Initial Time Commitment Ongoing Time Commitment
Committee Member None None On evening per month plus any duties volunteered for
Poolside Helper None One hour induction One hour at a swimming session at least every 4 weeks but preferably on a weekly or fortnightly basis.
Fundraiser None None Two evenings per month arranging events. Participation at some events
Time Keeper None Initial 2 hour timekeeping course Available at gala when your child is participating
Coach Assessment of suitability by coaching staff. Supervised coaching for 4 one hour swimming sessions One hour at a swimming session each week plus preparation of coaching plan for a session.
Lifeguard Basic swimming ability and confident in water 6 evening training sessions plus assessment One hour at a swimming session every two weeks. Refresher training for one hour twice per year.

Reassessment every 2 years.

Please note that it is a requirement of the Scottish Amateur Swimming Association (SASA) that all new volunteers become members of SASA (membership fees will be met by the Club) and undergo vetting through Disclosure Scotland. Further details are available from the Club Child Protection Officer, Stuart Anderson.

The Club is becoming critically short of volunteers, to the point that expanding Club activities is difficult and participation in galas may be curtailed in the near future.

Please consider giving some of your time to the Club, even just a few hours per month. I’m sure you will find it an enjoyable experience. If you are interested in volunteering please contact Karen Neill or any of the Committee Members.
